Effective 18 September 2026 · Applies to the Nightale app and bedtimehistorian.com

Nightale is a bedtime app. We built it to know as little about you as it can while still remembering where you fell asleep. There are no ads, no advertising trackers and no selling of data. This page explains what the app does hold and why.

What we collect

An anonymous account

When you first open Nightale the app creates an anonymous session with our backend (Supabase). It has a random identifier and no name, email, phone number or password. It is stored in your device's secure keychain so it survives reinstalls, and it is what lets a Premium subscription follow you between devices when you tap Restore.

Your name, on your device

If you tell Nightale what to call you, that name is kept on your device only. It appears on the Home screen, in Profile and in the bedtime reminder. It is never sent to us.

Listening data

What you play, how far you got, what you save, favourite or download, your night streak and your Hall of Chronicles badges all live on your device. They are used to resume stories, build your "For you" row and unlock badges. We do not keep a server-side listening history.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your card details. To confirm that a subscription is active we receive a receipt from the store and keep the result: the product bought, an opaque transaction identifier, the expiry date and whether it is a trial, linked to your anonymous account. That is what makes Restore Purchases work.

Reminders

The bedtime reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. It does not go through our servers, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time.

Technical logs

Stories and artwork are streamed from our content servers (Supabase and Cloudflare). Like any web server they log the request, including your IP address and app version, for a short time to keep the service running and to stop abuse. These logs are not linked to your listening.

What we do not collect

Who we share with

ProviderWhat forWhat they see
Apple / GoogleBilling and subscriptionsYour store account, handled under their own privacy terms
SupabaseAnonymous accounts, catalogue, receipt validationAnonymous session id, entitlement record, request logs
CloudflareDelivering audio and artwork, hosting this websiteRequest logs (IP address, file requested)

Each provider processes data on our instructions and under its own security commitments. We do not give anyone else access.

How long we keep it

The entitlement record stays for as long as the anonymous account exists, so Restore keeps working. Server request logs are rotated automatically after a short period. Everything on your device is removed when you delete the app.

Your choices

Children

Nightale is made for adults who want to sleep better. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, say so inside the app.
