Privacy Policy
Nightale is a bedtime app. We built it to know as little about you as it can while still remembering where you fell asleep. There are no ads, no advertising trackers and no selling of data. This page explains what the app does hold and why.
What we collect
An anonymous account
When you first open Nightale the app creates an anonymous session with our backend (Supabase). It has a random identifier and no name, email, phone number or password. It is stored in your device's secure keychain so it survives reinstalls, and it is what lets a Premium subscription follow you between devices when you tap Restore.
Your name, on your device
If you tell Nightale what to call you, that name is kept on your device only. It appears on the Home screen, in Profile and in the bedtime reminder. It is never sent to us.
Listening data
What you play, how far you got, what you save, favourite or download, your night streak and your Hall of Chronicles badges all live on your device. They are used to resume stories, build your "For you" row and unlock badges. We do not keep a server-side listening history.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your card details. To confirm that a subscription is active we receive a receipt from the store and keep the result: the product bought, an opaque transaction identifier, the expiry date and whether it is a trial, linked to your anonymous account. That is what makes Restore Purchases work.
Reminders
The bedtime reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. It does not go through our servers, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time.
Technical logs
Stories and artwork are streamed from our content servers (Supabase and Cloudflare). Like any web server they log the request, including your IP address and app version, for a short time to keep the service running and to stop abuse. These logs are not linked to your listening.
What we do not collect
- No email address, phone number or contact list, unless you write to us.
- No location, microphone or camera access.
- No advertising identifier, and no third-party analytics or ad SDKs.
- No sale or sharing of personal data with data brokers.
Who we share with
| Provider | What for | What they see |
|---|---|---|
| Apple / Google | Billing and subscriptions | Your store account, handled under their own privacy terms |
| Supabase | Anonymous accounts, catalogue, receipt validation | Anonymous session id, entitlement record, request logs |
| Cloudflare | Delivering audio and artwork, hosting this website | Request logs (IP address, file requested) |
Each provider processes data on our instructions and under its own security commitments. We do not give anyone else access.
How long we keep it
The entitlement record stays for as long as the anonymous account exists, so Restore keeps working. Server request logs are rotated automatically after a short period. Everything on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Your choices
- Delete everything on the device: delete the app. Name, history, saved stories and downloads go with it.
- Delete the anonymous account and its entitlement record: email us from the address below and quote the account id shown in Settings › About. We will remove it within 30 days. Your subscription itself is managed in your Apple or Google account.
- Cancel a subscription: Settings › your name › Subscriptions on iPhone, or Google Play › Subscriptions on Android. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
Children
Nightale is made for adults who want to sleep better. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, say so inside the app.
